Lynne Jordan and the Shivers and TRIODA - A Holiday Concert to Support Ukrainian Veterans
City Winery Chicago Presents Lynne Jordan and the Shivers and TRIODA - A Holiday Concert to Support the Ukrainian Veterans Leadership Center at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Ukraine on January 14th at 7:30 PM. Presented by Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America.
Lynne Jordan and the Shivers
In a city brimming with classic blues and jazz divas, Lynne Jordan stands apart as a Diva. Not only do her soaring vocals dip effortlessly into blues, jazz, funk, rock and even country but her bawdy personality wins over any crowd. The late Chicago film critic Roger Ebert declared her his “favorite diva.” Backed by her sizzling band The Shivers, Jordan quickly developed into a Chicago institution. She brought her special brand of storytelling, raw humor, and performance to New York, DC, and Atlanta with her sold-out show, “A Musical Tribute To Nina Simone.”
She has recorded with Tom Waits; The Punk group Urge Overkill; Alligator Records Blues artist Toronzo Cannon; featured amongst Taj Mahal, Etta James, and Koko Taylor on Blues Down Deep: A Tribute to Janis Joplin and her own CD’s: Bit o Fun and Holiday Shivers. Lynne performed in Jazz Operas in Europe, performed her own one-woman show, and is a featured vocalist with Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues.
Lynne has traveled the world with her band The Shivers, including a life-changing performance in Kyiv, Ukraine in Freedom Square (Maidan Square) years ago before an audience of 250,000. Having witnessed how the Ukrainian people reacted to her and The Shivers, there is nobody better suited to perform a charity show for Ukraine’s veterans. Her amazing rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive is the perfect song to support Ukraine’s people at this time of war.
TRIODA
Trioda is a renowned Ukrainian vocal trio making a powerful impact with their music in support of Ukraine’s veterans and soldiers. The trio features the voices of Andriy Hambal, Pavlo Chervinskyj, and Volodymyr Rybak, accompanied by guitarist Volodymyr "Elvis" Olenskyj. Winners of multiple song contests across Ukraine and Eastern Europe, they were also showcased on Ukraine’s Got Talent. Arriving in the U.S. in 2021, Trioda decided to stay in Chicago following Russia's invasion in February 2022. For them, music has become a source of resilience, a way to cope with challenging times, and a meaningful contribution to the war effort.
Standing with Those Who Stand for Ukraine
The Ukrainian Veterans Leadership and Resource Center, established in September 2024, aims to empower Ukrainian veterans with pathways for professional growth, resilience-building, and an active role in Ukraine’s future. It serves as a leading platform for discussions, leadership programs, research, and initiatives that support veterans’ social and economic integration. The university’s Center for Mental Health and Psychological Support is one of the many partners collaborating with the Veterans Center.
Founded in 1615, National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) is Ukraine’s oldest university. Though closed during the Soviet era and repurposed as a military center, it was revived after Ukraine’s independence in 1991. Through donor support, NaUKMA has become a leader in promoting Western standards and democratic reforms through educational excellence.
The Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America, a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2000, supports NaUKMA’s growth, scholarships, fellowships, and international partnerships. Donations, which are tax-deductible, can be made to the Foundation online or by mail. www.kmfoundation.org
