Midnight Sun - Juneteenth Tribute to James Brown, Sly Stone & George Clinton
Midnight Sun returns to City Winery on Juneteenth to pay homage to the three pillars of funk who changed music forever:
James Brown
Sly Stone
George Clinton
From 1967 to 1983, these three geniuses pushed the boundaries of music and shaped the culture of Black America, which ultimately changed the world. From "I'm Black And I'm Proud", to "Thank You (Falletinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" and "One Nation Under A Groove", they gave us permission to be proud, free and funky.
There is no other band that can deliver the energy, spirit and passion of this music better than Midnight Sun. The 10-piece unit, driven by co-lead vocalists Isiah Mitchell and Marqueal Jordan, is a collective of world class musicians and artists that have been a fixture in Chicago's music scene for almost 50 years. After re-emerging from the pandemic in 2021, The Sun has pushed its groove to higher heights and rave reviews. This show will be another stone groove, baby.
