Midnight Sun - A Tribute to Maze & Frankie Beverly (Monday)
City Winery Chicago presents Midnight Sun live on Monday, January 20th at 7:30 PM!
The world of music lost an icon on September 10, 2024. Vocalist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader and producer, Frankie Beverly was one of Black Music’s most beloved artists. Never crossing over to Pop success, Frankie along with his band Maze captivated audiences worldwide for 50 years, with a huge following that resembled the fervent fanbase of the Grateful Dead. Every Maze show was an event, and Frankie’s unique musical grooves and vocal stylings always centered Love as its message. Forever immortalized at “the cookout” and Black celebrations worldwide, Maze’s imprint on the culture will eternally remain. The Sun will celebrate Frankie on MLK Day by taking a deep dive into the Maze catalog and spreading “Happy Feelin’s” from the stage to the audience.
There is no band in Chicago like Midnight Sun. Established 1976, 10-piece ensemble throws down with 4-part harmony, full horn section and percussion.
Assembled from Chicago's elite funk, soul, and R&B talent, members of Midnight Sun have backed the biggest artists: The Isley Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Buddy Guy, Gerald Albright, Roy Ayers, Chris Greene Quartet, Destiny's Child, Brian Culbertson, The Emotions, Terisa Griffin, Fred Hammond, Lalah Hathaway, Al Jarreau, The Ides of March, JD McPherson, Marcus Miller, David Sanborn, Jill Scott, Johnnie Taylor, CeCe Winans–the list keeps going.
