A Prelude to Black Music Month
The United States has been celebrating Black Music Month since June 1979. The observance was created to recognize and celebrate the historical influence African Americans have had on the music industry and is intended to pay homage to the many artists, writers, songs, and albums that have inspired music lovers and shaped American pop culture. On May 28th, as a prelude to Black Music Month Soul of Chicago will pay homage by showcasing the different styles of music such Rhythm & Blues, Hip-Hop and Soul music that has had a profound impact on generations of performers and music lovers!
Known as the "Variable Force," Rexsell "Rex" Hardy Jr. has carved his niche as a musical powerhouse, breathing life into the recordings of some of the most influential R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop, and Gospel actives worldwide. Hailing from the vibrant city of Chicago, Rex has defied the odds to become a highly successful musical director, musician, producer, and programmer, amassing over 20 years of invaluable experience in the music industry.
His presence and passion for music and passion for music has led to his seat on the thrown where he served as the Musical Director/Drummer (18+ years) for the Queen of Hip Hop and R&B, Mary J. Blige. Other artists collaborations include Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan, Diddy, The Dream, Keri Hilson, Marvin Sapp & More. His experiences have also helped shape the soundtrack of some of today's biggest shows, including American Idol, The Four (NBC), Superfan (CBS), The Grammy Awards and numerous BET, VH1, MTV, and CMA Specials.
In 2021, Soul of Chicago (SOC) a full-service entertainment company was launched by Rex Hardy Jr. alongside business partner & manager Excell Hardy Jr. Leveraging 20+ years in the industry, SOC has comprised a collective of world renowned musicians and artists committed to providing a comprehensive suite of services that includes live & in studio music production, musician staffing, pro sound & audio and consulting.
